Jazz Legend Phil Woods!
Spring is here! Welcome to the first newsletter for April.
This weeks highlight was the performance of jazz legend Phil Woods with the BBC big band at Birmingham’s newly refurbished Town Hall. Jazzmouse’s Paul Fawcus was delighted to engineer the live front of house for this recorded concert for Radio 2. Even aged 76 Phil proved to be a tour de force with arrangements of six of his own compositions including ‘My man Benny’ and ‘Goodbye Mr. Evans’. The first half of the concert featured compositions by German composer Hans Koller. Hans who studied with Mike Gibbs and is resident in the UK delighted the Birmingham audience with a be-bop infused collection of eclectic originals and clever arrangements. Please refer to the bands web site for broadcast details. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/bigband/ Ted Carfrae has been a long standing Jazzmouse client with albums for Cilla Black, David Cassidy and more recently Jackie Trent. Ted has now established TCM online mastering and Jazzmouse is delighted to announce that if you quote Jazzmouse when you order TCM will give you a Production Master, worth over £50, free of charge on your first order! Please contact TCM at http://www.tcmmastering.com/ Composer and pianist Will Todd has recorded a new album and Jazzmouse’s Paul Fawcus performed woodwinds (flute, alto flute, soprano, alto & tenor saxophones) as a guest on five of the tracks. Will’s seminal work ‘Mass in Blue’ can be heard all around the UK this year and features Will’s trio that is at the core of this new recording. The other members of the group are Gareth Huw Davis - bass, Jim Fleeman - drums and Bethany Halliday - vocals. For more information about Will and his music please contact http://www.willtodd.com/
